travel with a criminal record

Post Tue Jan 24, 2012 3:08 pm

Hi, over 1.5 years ago, my fiance was arrested for DUI and possesion of a controlled substance for personal use (weed). He never did time or anything, but he plead guilty and has been good since. We are now planning our honeymoon, and wondering what countries will not allow him in with those charges on his record. We are hoping to go someplace in Europe (most likely Italy or Greece).

Thanks so much :)

Hi HANNIES MOMMA,

Your best bet here is going to be to approach the Canadian embassy in these countries directly and check with them. It seems, based on the reading I have done, that this can go both ways - so it would be a shame to assume you'll be fine, only to be denied entry upon arrival.

That link will take you to a page where you can search for Canadian embassies in other countries. Contact those which you may like to travel to, and find out directly from them. At least that way - you will know for sure!

Best of luck!

It's a sad story, but I think there is no problem. They are comfortable than we think. I think so.

Most visa applications will ask about any assurances and their nature. A criminal record does not essentially mean your visa application will be denied.
