traveling across the border by land???

my girlfriend lives in branford, on, canada and i live in reno, nv, usa. i usually visit her by flying into toronto. each plane ticket costs me around $600 and i found that flying to buffalo, ny is a lot cheaper, $350 a ticket roundtrip.

this valentines day i plan to propose to her. i want to fly into buffalo, ny. then rent a car and drive to brantford which should only be about two hours of driving and surprise her, then drive back to niagara falls and propose there.

since i have already forked out $2500 for a ring i am trying to limit the expense. so i figured it would be cheaper to fly to buffalo and drive there.

can anyone give me advice on crossing the border on land as i have not done so before?

how long does it take to get through the border?

Any special info needed?

Its the same as at airport, except that without the benefit of a return ticket, yo uwill be questionned about your plans.

You want to carry proof of your US ties, and firm statements as to when and why you will be shortly returning to US.

what about my return ticket from buffalo? that should show I plan on coming back right?

That definitely would help.

I guess I meant to say "Its the same as at airport, except that they may ask for something other than return ticket, which is automatic at airport entry points."
