Travelling on a foreign passport & tracking your exit & entr

Post Sun Aug 14, 2011 6:49 am

this may have already been covered, but on a search I couldn't find it.

The question is specific to how Canada knows when you've left and when you return when using a non-Canadian passport..

Leaving at YYZ on a return flight to the UK - at check in the airline agent zips my British passport - does that trigger someting with the Canadan border agency, or is it simply that I am on the flight?

Arriving in the UK the UK border agency {passport control} zips my British passport.

Leaving the UK at check in the ticket agent zips my British passport as does the person at the gate [these are passport control people I'm guessing]

Arriving back in Canada knowing that I probably will be hassled by the immigration agent at YYZ, I show only my British passport, my Citizenship card, drivers license ^ tell the border agent that I dont have my Canadian passport with me

Question - does anyone really know does the Canada border immigration agency and all of the other federal & provincial government linked agencies know that I left Canada then returned?

Appreciate knowng this

There is an ability to check identities between the UK, Canada, NZ, USA and Australia. This can identify people using false identities or people with criminal histories, current criminal activity and can report back to their respective government agency or agencies a passenger's itinerary. For example, In Canada this is triggered when an individual is claiming unemployment or disability benefits yet is traveling outside the country or when there are substantial unpaid taxes owed to the Canada Revenue Agency; these are a couple of specific examples.

Hi Portico,
I have the same question as you. I have both a EU (UK) and Cdn passport. I cannot believe that in this post 9/11 world that the passports are not crossed referenced although this is a gut feeling on my part. But why would they wish to question you - it is legal to have 2 passports, unless you are claiming unemployment benefits and should be looking for work every waking minute of your day!
Many years ago we travelled to Hawaii on a prebooked vacation. Just before we left my wife was laid off and was receiving UI benefits. She was contacted by UI and had to repay benefits for the time we were away. So checks are made between the passport control and other agencies.
If you find any answers please post them.
Thanks,
Mexberry.
