Travelling overseas with a canadian pardon

If we travel or live abroad, we usually come back to visit right? Here's a the place to meet other "re-pats" and Canadians who have returned.

Travelling overseas with a canadian pardon

Post Mon May 11, 2009 2:34 pm

Hello everyone. I do apologize if this is in the wrong section, however I had a quick question.

I am living in canada (canadian citizen) and I was recently granted a canadian pardon. Now i would like to travel overseas to holland, and my flight path will be from calgary to toronto to munich (germany) to holland. Will i have issues travelling? I understand that the USA has access to our system, but do other countries do too? I am just really afraid of being detained or worse , arrested in some other country. Thank you and take care

Your best bet is to call the Pardon Board (or whatever it's called).

When my dad was planning his trip to Canada he called and they gave him a bit of advice. I would also read up on whatever visas (if any) are needed to get into the other country and what needs to be disclosed.

My dad flew to Australia last year and had no trouble getting in. He did get the longer tourist visit where the criminal record was disclosed voluntarily, although later he found out the pardon borad said he didn't need to do that. When he was on the plane he checked no for criminal record and he didn't have any problems at customs. So I don't think his history showed up on the computer since it was his first time in the country and his record is clean in Canada.
