I have never travelled by myself and am planning a trip to eastern europe. would it be safe for a female (24 years old) to travel by herself here or should i find a travelling partner?

100% absolutely safe. No more safe / unsafe than any other country in Europe, or Canada for that matter. You'll be fine. I'd only be a little more wary of petty theft like pickpocketing, though I've never had any difficulty (and haven't met anyone that has either).

I travelled to those countries alone at the age of 21(in 2000). No worries. I spent 8 days in Budapest and loved it! Prague was also safe, yet I felt safer in Budapest. Make sure you take the bus(like a Greyhound), there's a company called Eurolines. I've heard it is unsafe to travel by train in Eastern Europe.

Be sure to visit Slovakia along the way, bratislava (capital of Slovakia) is on a way from Prague, just 150km from Budapest, 50km from vienna. If you check stats, all of those places are safer than Toronto or Vancouver. But I have to correct you: this is CENTRAL Europe, what's understood today as Eastern Europe is a bit different (Ukraine, Romania, etc.)
