Trying to get dual citizenship with England.

Post Fri Dec 23, 2011 3:23 pm

My Dad was born in England in 1951 and moved to Canada in 1975. He holds dual citizenship with Canada and Great Britain. I was born in Canada in 1984 and am wondering if I qualify for dual citizenship. I have checked out the British High Commission website but they only seem to have a help line that costs $3.00 a minute... Is there any online forms I can download or a website that can direct me on how to apply, or can tell me if I'm even eligible? Thanks for the help :)

My Dad was born in England

That is sufficient. Doesn't matter when you or him were born.

Simply fill in C1, with fathers birth cert and marriage cert, your birth cert and photos.

You are already UK citizen by descent. You're now just applying for proof.

Just email your local Honorary Consul or Consulate!

I contacted the local german consulate to claim my citizenship, and they were very helpful. They gave me a list of documents they needed to verify (scanned and sent via email), and then gave me a recommendation that I would likely qualify for a german passport.

Do I qualify then.. My dad was born in Scotland and came to Canada but never married my mom. Do I still fit under descent rule?

If you were born before 1983 you are not a UK citizen.

If you were born aftetr 1983, you might be

If one was born after 2006, you definitely would be.
