Two Years In Canada Before I Can Get A New Visa?

Post Sat Nov 08, 2008 11:14 am

I returned to Canada in July after being an au pair in the US for almost 2 years. Is it true that I now have to live in Canada for 2 years before I am eligible for any other kind of visa?
I graduate from my university here in Canada this spring and am interested in investigating employment opportunities in the US upon completion and would prefer to do this as soon as possible if I can, as opposed to waiting over another year.
Thanks!

depends on what type of visa you had as an au pair, and what the conditions of it were. Some visa types do require two years after the completion of one, before you can apply for another.

Yes, if you were on J-1 you can't go back in on another type of work permit until you've spent the required amount of time outside the US. You can apply for a waiver but the conditions for getting one are quite tough.
Steve.
