Okay, so I know some people have already posted threads on this topic but I am STILL confused. Here is the deal: I am a U.S. Citizen and my boyfriend is a Canadian Citizen. I currently live in Michigan and he lives in Ontario. I am going to be done with school in December and we are talking about me moving there (to Canada).BUT.everything I have looked into is a LONG, LONG process! Can someone please enlighten me on some ideas? What would be the EARLIEST turn-around time to get into Canada.I am SO frustrated! Thanks for your help!

It is a long, long process. It's not something you can do in a week or two. The thing to do is to go in as a visitor and apply for a change of status.

It's actually harder to do it from the US to Canada than the other way around, one of the very rare exceptions as far as that goes. There's a reason only about 5,000 Americans move to Canada every year permanently. This is one of them!

quickest turn-around for family based sponsorship (if you get married or you're sponsored as a conjugal partner or common-law partner) would be about 3 months. But that's rare. Most spousal sponsorships are completed in about 12 months.

You could try to cross the border and then stay and apply from within the country. But that can take up to a year as well, and you won't be able to work during that time period.

Immigration, in either direction, is not easy.
