UK Ancestry + new baby ?

Post Tue Nov 11, 2008 6:14 am

Hello!

I'm new here.

We are Canadians living in the UK on an UK Ancestry Visa and have been here for 2 years now.

However, now we have had a new baby here in the UK and all the red tape is

Since both my dh and I are Canadians, baby does not automatically get British citizenship. We have applied for baby's Canadian cit. and are told that is approx a 12 mos wait  (we are 7 mos into that wait currently).

Our family has decided they have been without us long enough and want us home for Christmas this year  which has sent us into a bit of a panic.

We quickly applied for a passport for baby, and he was given a temporary one which can be extended once the citizenship paper arrives.

BUT now I am wondering about the visa situation? Does he need an UK Ancestry visa as well? and how do we go about applying for one, since we are already in the UK and there are "dire warnings" all over the gov websites about only applying from the native country?

Has anyone else dealt with this?

Help!

Thanks!

You will not be able to apply for an ancestry visa for your baby as one of the criteria is to be 17 years old or older.

I am sure your baby will need a visa but not too sure what kind (maybe FLT?) you should contact the Home Office to make sure.

Thanks for the reply.

As our other three children already have UK ancestry visa (granted through their father's application) I suspect my new baby also needs one.

I have been called the home office all week with no avail to get anyone to answer the phone!

Will try again next week.

Thanks again!
