UK Ancestry Visa - Application while in France?

Post Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:05 am

I am fully eligible for a UK Ancestry visa and have all my supporting documentation.

My wife is currently living in Paris under a diplomatic visa. I will have one of these in a few weeks as well but it does not allow me to work in France except for an International Agency such as the OECD. I am an IT professional and would like to work in the Greater London area. I am currently working and living in Canada.

Can I apply for a UK Ancestry Visa from France or do I have to apply for it from Canada? Thanks.

You apply for UK visa from the office/consulate/high commmision which has jurisdiction over where you currently live.

So if I understand correctly, I should be able to apply from France once I take up residence there?

That's correct. If you're eligible and ready to apply, you can do it from Canada before you move to France. These applications are processed within a couple of days in Canada. However, once you live in France, you'll have to apply from there. The processing times are around 30 days in Paris.

Thank-you!

I had no idea that the Visa was processed so quickly from Canada. I just didn't want to book my flight and then be without my passport for months.
