UK Ancestry Visa - Are Parents still ok?

UK Ancestry Visa - Are Parents still ok?

Hi Guys!

Just applied online for my UK ancestry visa and am getting my documents together for my Biometrics. I was going through the list of documents required again to make sure I have **everything**, and noticed the wording has changed a bit on the birth certificates required, and the Ancestry qualifications - it now only refers to being qualified if you have a grandparent's birth certificate, not a parent's. I was initially just going to send in my dad's UK birth certificate and apply off that, but am now nervous that it might get turned down if I don't put a grandparent's certificate and marriage certificate in there too. We currently have my grandparent's marriage certificate, but not my grandmother's birth certificate. Anyone able to shed some light on this, or should I make a dash to order my grandmother's UK birth certificate online?

Much thanks!
Lynndyhop.

Ended up figuring things out on my own - Just replying to my own post in case anyone is ever in the same boat as me - looks like they have changed the structure once again back in Feb 2008 so that if you have a parent born in the UK, you qualify under Right of Abode, not the Ancestry Visa. So if you have a parent born in the UK, go for Right of Abode - less stuff to submit, and you don't need to do biometrics. Of course if you have a grandparent and a parent you can still apply for Ancestry, but there is a lot more work involved, as you still have to proove that you are employable and will be looking for work, and that you have a legit place to live. With Right of Abode, you just need to prove who you are and that you have it based on your parent's birth certificate, parent's marriage certificate and your birth certificate.

Glad you found the information you were looking for, Lynndyhop. I -was- wondering why you were applying for Ancestry, since I knew about Right of Abode (for my dad). but I didn't know you didn't know about it. Sorry!

Hi there!

You are able to work on this visa, though not sure about your wife being able to come with - that isn't very clear. Keep in mind the Right of Abode Visa takes 12 weeks to process, not like the Ancestry Visa (which seems weird because there is less than half the required documents to submit!)
