UK Ancestry Visa Dilemmas

Post Wed May 06, 2009 10:20 am

Hello,

I've read over numerous posts regarding the Ancestry visa requirements and I also have done a fair amount of research. However there are some points about this visa I hope someone may have the answer too.

I have seen on the UK gov website various amounts of funding for different Tiers schemes such as 800 GBP or 1600 GBP in savings. I emailed worldbridge last year about the Ancestry Visa and they told me that "There is no specific figure for the amount of funds you are required to evidence." I wish to apply for this visa with $1500CDN in my account but would that be enough to satisfy the authorities? Has anyone managed to acquire the visa without having their account show 3 months in savings? I am looking at having savings for over a months time.

Some concerns:
Evidence of how your trip is to be funded.
- Would that not be shown by my savings? Or do I need a plane ticket?
Evidence of your current employment.
- I been unemployed for 4 months, so would I have to include my last job pay stubs?
Evidence of your total monthly income.
- What documentation are they looking for with this?

I really need my visa for a potential job offer with the House of Commons and I am afraid of applying and being denied due to my unemployment and money issues.

Thanks,
Wod

I got my ancestry visa 3 years ago and only sent a bank statement that showed that I had about $3000 in my account. I had no problem getting my visa.

Good Luck :-)

Does anyone know how long it takes to recieve the Visa once you have applied? I am leaving in September to live in England as an Au pair and I need to have it before then! :-|

Hey thanks! I prolly won't have as much as that, but it gives me an estimate. To answer your question robyn03 from various posts and what I know of the British system, they generally try to have visas issued within two weeks. Of course that depends on your documents and if its the prime season for visa requests...usually August.

I'm following up on the process now also for the UK ancestry visa. Does anyone know how long the original passport has to be submitted for? I fly abroad frequently for work (weekly) but from what I read the original documentation has to be submitted for 4 to 6 weeks, which includes the passport. Can the passport be submitted for a shorter time?

In answer to your question, yes you would be without your passport for the duration of your application. I haven't heard of anyone having their passport submitted for a lesser time. However it really just depends on your application and how fast it will be approved. I've heard some people receiving theirs sooner than 4-6 weeks.
