I'd like to know if anyone has been in our particular situation (or something similar) and how it worked out for them.
I am Canadian and have been studying in the UK for the last 3 1/2 years, am just now finishing my PhD (yay!). My husband is also Canadian and has been in the UK too, working, on an ancestry visa. He needs to apply to extend his visa soon. I want to put myself down as his spouse on the application so that I will have an ancestry spousal visa. I'm starting my post-doctoral work in March next year, and can get a Tier II work visa through that, but I have a gap of 5 months between my student visa and that work visa, during which time I will just have a 6 month visitor stamp (I am visiting Canada right after my thesis defense, but coming back to the UK) and will not be allowed to work or to get NHS care apart from emergency. Also, I would have to go back to Canada for about a month in January/February to get my Tier II work visa, and I don't want to be apart from my husband for that long.
Will it be alright for me to be on my husband's ancestry visa extension application? I don't want to jeopardize his application.
Thanks!
Alison
