UK Ancestry Visa... I got mine!

I sent my UK Ancestry application on Tuesday, it arrived on Wednesday, and received word this morning that it has been approved!! Holy Cow that was fast !!! UK here I come.

Quick back story: I'm living in Ontario (nearest to the Toronto office). My mother's father was born in Scotland and I've decided to go ahead with applying to move there under the UK Ancestry laws. I have all the long-form birth certificates I need.

I'm about to apply for the UK Ancestry visa through the Visa4UK website, it says to have several things ready, including an address in the UK. I obviously don't have this information as I don't have an address in the UK.

I've also spent a bunch of time being run around in circles. Some websites say I don't need a visa, just a "permission to enter," whereas the UKvisas site says I need to fill out form VAF2 - Employment. I suspect that once I begin my application I will encounter a question that will direct me to an electronic version of this form. I'd really rather not START this application process unless I can FINISH it in the same sitting, so any information about the actual form and application process would be helpful.

If everything goes according to plan, I'd like to be in Scotland sometime late July. From what I can tell from this forum, this is not unreasonable. Have I misinterpreted this? Thanks for your input.

Also, my Canadian passport expires in a year. is it best to renew it before leaving, or wait until closer to the expiration date?

Yes, you need to bring everything, including your printed application and ALL supporting documentation. I went to the Toronto office, so I don't know anything about the Vancouver one. And as long as you show you have money, and a place to stay, you should be fine. I'd suggest getting your friends to write a letter saying they know you're coming to stay.

Hello everyone
i am just finishing up gathering all documentaion for the ancestry visa.
Waitng for my own long form BC.
I wont have a lot of money when i get there (maybe 2000 pounds), but will be able to stay with friends rent free for as long as i need to.
hs anyone out there been to the biometric place in Vancouver?.
I will need to book a flight to get there.
Do I bring all my documentaion and application there?

Any advice or help will be appreciated.

Money specifically doesn't matter. Basically show you have enough to live off of until you can get a job. Having a place to stay really helps!

ow much money do you need in. The bank to go or get aproved?

I'm new to this forum and I find it incredibly helpful, but I have a quick question about a possible Ancestry Visa and my situation.

Now this may be a stupid question but do step-parents count? I know it may be hard to go that route since he isn't my legal father but there is legal documentation that he married my mother (lame I know) and my brother and I are or were (I'll have to check that out) under his medical plan. My step-father was born and lived in the Isle of Man until he was 8, at that time him and his family immigrated to Montreal in the early sixties. I also know that my step-father was my successor personal guardian if anything were to happen to both my father and mother. I'm not too knowledgeable on this so I have brought out all the information I can to see if this would be eligible for an Ancestry Visa.

Any answer is extremely helpful as I look to work and live in the UK sometime in the near future. I'm not to optimistic about that question but I'd love to know for sure.

I applied for my UK ancestry visa on Friday, I have received word that it has been received for processing.
I was wondering if anyone has been in a case similar to mine and what documents they submitted.
I am going to teach in the UK, and submitted all of the marriage and birth certificates required, as well as my passport and bankbook. I also submitted my teaching qualifications.
I am worried because I also submitted supporting documents that showed my work experience and they were not original copies and the lady said they may not be considered. My recruiter said since I didnt need those to get the visa that I should be fine, but Im still worried and wanted to check with what other peoples experiences were.....
Also, did anyone have a wait longer than 3 weeks for their visa?

I may be repeating myself, because I feel like I've answered your question already, so forgive me if I have. I seem to be losing it.

Step parents, unless you were adopted by them, do not count. My dad, technically, is my stepfather, and he was born in the UK. If he had adopted me, I would have been able to apply for Right to Abode. But because he didn't, I went through my mother's side to get my Ancestry Visa.

So, if he adopted you, the you can use his lineage. If he didn't, you'll need to go through your mother's or father's side, if they are British. If not, I'd suggest looking for a work visa of sorts.

I just got issued my uk ancestry visa last week.. its such a relief now that i have it.

one question...once i'm in the uk, do i just bring my passport with the visa in it to job interviews etc or do i have to apply for a social security number or something similar?? how do i use the visa now that its been issued?
