Hi All, I have just submitted my application on-line and paid the fee through visa4UK.fco.co.uk and now I've learned that I must provide proof of adequate accommodation by providing a copy of the mortgage or tenancy agreement of my sponsor. I had no idea I needed a sponsor for a UK Ancestry visa. I checked the britishhighcommision.gov.uk site and their is no mention of sponsor only adequate accommodation but not proof of leases and mortgages. Has anyone went through this process lately who can shed some light on this for me as I was planning on crashing on a friend's couch for a week or so and then getting my own flat. Many thanks, Lisa

hey, I recall reading something somewhere about it but I haven't been able to find the information since.

You most likely won't be able to get a tenancy agreement until you get to the UK. I would say if needed you can get your friend to write a letter for you stating that they will allow you to stay with them until as such time as you have aquired a job etc.

I don't think you *should* need it for the ancestry visa but the more information you can submit that supports your case the better. I don't know for sure.

Contact the worldbridge people for help if all else fails. however I've found them very unhelpful.

I think you're right to provide them with as much info as possible. The thing is the requirement was that the sponsor was to provide the proof of tenancy or mortgage not me and I'm just not comfortable asking any of my friends for this as I'd only be houseguest for a short time. I won't bother contacting Worldbridge as no one on this forum has had much success with them.

I'll keep everyone posted as to how things turn out. Good luck with your application.

That's completely understandable. I mean I probably wouldn't be comfortable with that either.

Which is why I still suggest asking your friend for a letter if nothing else. If you read back through the archives of the main forum I think there was a thread where someone said they were approved and all they included was an e-mail from their friend saying they could stay with them.

However I do believe everyone in the thread agreed that they were lucky and had gotten through with just the bare minimum.
