UK ancestry visa - proof of relationships between family

Post Thu Jul 07, 2011 4:44 am

Hello,

My ancestry visa was just rejected on the basis that my documents don't show my relationship between my mother nor my mothers relationship between her father.

How do I prove that with official certificates?

I submitted:
* My CAN birth cert
* My moms CAN birth cert
* my grandfathers Scottish birth Cert
* everyones marriage certs
* all the other docs required.

Hi,

I haven't submitted yet, but I am pretty sure you need the long form birth certificates, not the regular ones that just show your name and birth date (card-sized one). The long form birth certificates show the names of the parents, thus proving the relationship between parent and child. I ordered my birth certificate (BC) online and it came right away, and my mom ordered hers (Ontario) online as well I think and it also came right away.

Hope this helps.

I have questions about this as well. I'm going to be getting long form birth certificates, but who do I need them for? I'm applying for Ancestry under my grandparents. Do I need long form certificates for them, my mother and myself?

Also, where is a reputable website to get information about them from? Or to apply for online? I'm always weary about getting official documents online.
I just want to make sure I'm well prepared, thanks in advance for any help.

I'm in the process of applying for an Ancestry Visa as well (I applied for Citizenship in June, but may take up to six months & am planning to go to the UK before that).

From what I gather you need to submit your birth certificate, that of your mother, granparents. Your parents marriage certificates & your grandparents as well, so they can trace the heritage down to you. If you submitted all these, I would think you SHOULD be approved...

As far as applying for birth/marriage certificates, this is where I went -

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentc ... /DG_175628

There's optional priority post & regular, therefore certificates should arrive in 2-3 weeks.

Hi,

I am in the UK on an Ancestry Visa.

You need to submit your long form birth certificate showing your parents names. Also your parents long form birth cert. showing the names of your grandparents. and lastly your grandparents long form birth cert. I did not need to submit any marriage certificates but if you have them it doesn't hurt.

Good Luck

Hi

It can be very confusing. I had to thumb suck and guess what they need. All in all it took about 11 months to get all the paperwork in order, but it only took one (yes you heard me) one day to get my visa approved.

Ok so im the spouse of someone that has lineage so it was even more paperwork for the both of us

Firstly we supplied my husband’s grandmothers' Scottish birth certificate, his grandparents' marriage certificates, my husband’s mothers' birth certificate, His mother and fathers' marriage certificate, my husband’s birth certificate, my Parents' marriage certificate and my birth Certificate.

That showed my relationship with my husband and also how he is related to Scotland.

Then secondly we did finances so we supplied six months bank statements of all our bank accounts, credit cards and home loans. We supplied six months’ worth of Pay slips and an employment letter of our current jobs.

Thirdly we showed how we were going to fund our stay there. We supplied the statements of where the funds are. I have around ZAR 40000 and my husband has ZAR 57000 in our respective accounts. This we will be taking with us when we enter the UK.

Fourthly we had letters from people in the UK that said that they would a) support us financially and b) if we need a place to stay. This came with their latest utility bills.

Fifthly we supplied our CV's and the jobs we applied for there. We were lucky because we had confirmation of employment already (or rather interviews for the jobs)

Lastly we also supplied pictures of the families, the grandparents from Scotland and also xmas pics and social events. I don’t know if this was really enquired but it couldn’t hurt.

Because of the mountain of paperwork i placed everything in a flip folder (those see through sleeves) in chronological order that made sense.

I hope this helps?
