UK National entering Canada to get married

UK National entering Canada to get married

Postby John757 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 5:44 am

Hello,

Quick question, i'll keep it simple.

Im a UK Citizen, looking to get married in Canada to my Canadian fiancee who lives in Canada. I want to know if I'll need to submit any sort of entry clearance/visa forms before I enter Canada (Halifax, NS to be precise). Or can I just turn up to the immigration desk and tell them I'm there to get married?

I will be leaving Canada a week after we are married as we intend to settle in the UK after this for a few years. I do have ties that keep me in the UK and I will be able to show that I will be leaving Canada (been to Canada many times before on visits so have this down pretty well!).

Any help is appreciated :)

The regs say you can enter to get married, provided the inspection officer is satisfied you only intend to stay temporarily and leave after the wedding.

So have proof you're going back to the UK and you should be fine.

And if you have the paperwork partially filled out for your fiancee/wife to immigrate to the UK, bring that with you, as well as proof that you'll be returning to the UK.

Once they see that you're sponsoring your then wife to move to the UK, it should be fairly smooth sailing.

Well, just 32 days to go before I get married!! Just wondering if any of the regulations have changed since March?

Thanks for the both your answers previously by the way, they have put our minds to rest. Hopefully I won't have any issues entering and the wedding should go smoothly. I'm just worried about me being turned down because of not having the right documents or entry clearance or something. Think my minds just getting a little overactive actually.
