Well that's not entirely true, because Commonwealth citizens can get a commonwealth visa to enter the UK temporarily for a year and plus there are the ancestry visas. Why the hell someone in Canada would want to move to the UK is the more relevant question. There's a reason everyone wanted to leave the UK and start an Empire.

Canada will never become a republic for two reasons - the first is that it is seen as being a right-wing move especially in Ontario, because it makes Canada more like the US. The second reason why is that no-one wants to touch the subject with a 50-foot, sorry, 20 metre pole, because of the whole Québec situation. As soon as anyone starts talking about it seriously then the separatists in Québec start saying they want their own republic.

Basically a hornet's nest that Federal politicians steer well clear of.

I always thought it would be interesting to see what happened if Australia became a republic, but now Rupert Murdoch is too old to become President he seems to be steering all the media in Australia towards saying that it's a bad idea even though he was 100% for it until he got over the hill, so I doubt Australia will become a republic anytime soon either. Maybe if Charles becomes King, but even then I doubt it and the way he's going I reckon the Queen will outlive him. Laughing
