I'm in the middle of applying for my UK Settlement Visa and I've just realized that the passport that I currently have is in my maiden name. We were married in 2005 and the passport doesn't expire until 2009 and I didn't feel like paying to have another one issued until it went.

I've filled in and printed out all the application papers and have my biometric data collection appointment made. I also have a provincially issued marriage certificate to submit as well as all the other data needed for the application. Can someone tell me if having my passport in my maiden name will cause me problems when it comes to granting me settlement in the UK?

I'm simply voicing my opinion, I'm not a Visa processing person by any means. I don't see it being a problem.

Your passport shows a date of issue, and you have your marriage certificate, honestly i think it will be fine, IMO.

When you go to the biometrics appointment, they should look over all the paper work, so you could probably verify with them.

No idea - but just remember that if you book flights, they have to match the name in your passport. It could end up being more hassle later on.

I've traveled several times on my current passport after being married. It's actually never been an issue having booked the flights in my married name and still having my passport in my maiden name. I hope it's the same with the visa application though.

Calster I completely understand your confusion, I was in the same boat not too long ago. Then I found this website: www.worldbridge.co.uk it is a great site. Full of information on steps to apply.

What I got from the website is that you apply and pay online. At the end of the visa application you will get some sort of code, which you need to book your biometrics appointment.

At the biometrics appointment take your printed visa application, your proof of payment, and all your supporting documents along with a passport type photo. They will then, take your prints and your picture, go through your papers to ensure all is accurate.

I know if you go to the Toronto VAC centre they ship all the documents for you, I don't think the centre in Edmonton is the same. But that link might help you.
