Uk tier 5 changes

Uk tier 5 changes

"Can I extend my stay or switch into another leave category?

No. You cannot extend or switch into leave in any other category. There are penalties for those who do not observe all conditions of their leave to enter or who remain in the UK beyond the time limited by their leave."

The plan was to go over on a tier 5 visa, then switch to unmarried partner visa... but I guess that won't work anymore, will it?

Nope. According to the new rules this is what happens:

1) your visa expires and you can't change into another category while in the UK.
2) you leave the UK
3) you return to your home country
4) you apply for another type of visa
5) you wait an indeterminate amount of time (varies by visa)
6) you receive the visa
7) you fly back to the UK

Very expensive, now isn't it? Buying the plane ticket home, paying the fee for the new visa, finding a place to stay for about two months, pay for another ticket back to the UK... Talk about a runaround!

Sucks, doesn't it? I think that it's stupid that you can't apply within the UK for another visa. Just be glad it's not a marriage visa and then spousal visa!! That's TWO round-trip flights (at least, that's how I'm reading it)

So it's still possible to apply fo an unmarried partner visa after, however? I mean, I can come back here, live with my mom for 2 months... Not worried about the cost. If it's still possible, though, it works for me :) Obviously it'd be more convenient to apply from within the uk while on the other visa... but beggars can't be choosers :(

The thing is that if you want to be "common-law" or whatever term they want to use, you have to live together for at least two years. To the day. They want letters, emails, text messages, bills, pictures, lease/mortgage, all with both of you on them, along with a few dozen pints of blood, and the promise of your firstborn.

The problem with that: you have to leave before your two years are up on your Youth Mobility Scheme Visa, so they screw you out of becoming common-law with a significant other. As I understand it, you can't stay past the limit of the visa even as a visitor.

Now, this is all from what I've read on the website, and here. I'm looking at working in the UK under the YMSV myself, so the more info the better.

Corrections to what I typed here are welcome!

Really? From what I was hearing, people were applying BEFORE their 2 years was up before. Even so, I can have proof I moved in the day I go over, and I can have proof I stayed til the day I leave.. which will be 2 years. I'm fairly certain they won't get too upset if I stay 1 day over because I can't get a flight until then ;)
Either way, from what -I- was reading on the uk visa site, I have to show that I've lived with him for 2 years (we'll have bills in both of our names for 24 months)... and I have to convince someone that I plan on staying with him... (evidence like joint bank account and such obviously helps). I was reading the guidelines for the decision makers...
