UK to Canada travel

Postby cbdynamo » Sun Sep 14, 2008 1:11 am

Advice?
I'm trying to get back to Canada from UK . prefer NOT flying in-out of Heathrow/Gatwick. I would like to see friends in Mtl, Toronto, with end destination Calgary. (it would be a return trip, but straight back to UK).

Anyone out there have any suggestions? With FlyZoom gone it seems the choices are limited, not to mention expensive.
Thanks. C

UK - Canada travel suggestions?

Postby cbdynamo » Sun Sep 14, 2008 4:21 am

Flying in/out of Manchester is OK, but not fantastic. M62 is a nightmare, takes ages to drive and Man. is expensive to stay over, if the flight leaves too early. We are closer to Leeds.
What airlines would you suggest?
With FlyZoom dying, the only alternatives seem to be KLM, which is good, but pricey.

Air Transat -- does that fly out of the UK?

I use it between Toronto and Amsterdam.but it only operates during the summer.

we can give more helpful answers if we know when u're going and for how long, since many air services are seasonal.

have u looked at lufthansa, which flies from manchester via frankfurt? i suggest something like manchester to toronto outbound and calgary to manchester inbound. lufthansa is, like air canada, in star alliance, so u can earn aeroplan miles.

u can purchase separately a one-way from montréal or toronto to calgary on either air canada or westjet, while using coachcanada (from $10 upward) or via rail for toronto to montréal. this has the advantage of increasing ur flexibility by not forcing u to decide everything at the point that u book ur transatlantic journey.

ian. :)

Thomas Cook do a flight from Manchester to Toronto, I've taken it a few times.

However once you've ploughed up the M6 to Manchester you'll wish you flew from Heathrow. I always like the sign next to the road: "Warning: traffic queues ahead." This is a printed, metal sign next to the road, which gives you an idea how bad the traffic is.

How about a coach to Manchester, then a flight to Mirabel/Montréal?
