Unmarried partner sponsership with a Tier 2 visa

Hello all,

Thanks in advance for any help. I recently received my Tier 2 sponsored visa to work in the UK for a 3 year contract. I have been with my unmarried partner for 9 years and we've lived together for 6 so I don't think we will have any problem putting together an application for a dependant visa for her. She will not join me in the UK for 6 months to a year after I arrive due to work commitments here in Canada.

I guess I am most interested in hearing from people who thought they would be a shoe in but were denied their visa. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated also.
