My canadian girlfriend has been in the uk since august 2007, on a Working holiday visa (INF 15) which has now been changed to the YPS.

we have been dating since sept 2007. living at each others homes, she moved in with me on sept 2008.

what if any hope have we got to continue her stay in the uk. I know she will have to return to Canada, because you cannot change the status of you visa under INF 15.

we were looking at the Tier 1 option, but thats all changing from april the first, (you require a masters degree and 20k).

i know its not looking promising, but any advice would be so greatful

The way things are going in the world, you may be the one to go to Canada with your girlfriend.

I'm in the same boat, more or less. I want to be with my British boyfriend, but with the recession going on, there doesn't seem to be any way in hell that I can get over to the UK. I don't have a master's degree, I can't apply for a long-term visitors permit because there wouldn't be enough money to support us, and the Boarder Agency is starting to turn down visas left right and center due to their 4-5 million unemployed UK citizens.

What my boyfriend and I are thinking is this: school. One of us may be able to enroll in a college/university program in the other country, and live there.

Or, he comes over here, which by all accounts is far easier.

They're not making long-distance relationships easy, now are they?

I am a canadian citizen and my boyfriend and I first met and started our relationship in March of last year, I have come over to be with him for 6 months than I have to leave the UK for 6.....I plan to go to France for 3 months than somewhere else for another 3 than come back her for 6.....He will live with me 3 out of the 4 days in France and wherever else. He is a contractor here In London. Do I have to go Back to Canada to apply for my unmarried partners Visa when our 2 years are up or can we apply from France........They make it so very hard, A test of time really, we have spent more time apart than together and knowing that I have to leave for another 6 months its heartbreaking. I feel everyones pain that is going through this......
