Good Day.

I have a couple of things I need elaborated on as the UK website isn't clear enough for me.
I will be applying for my UK ancestry visa through my Grandfather. My girlfriend is Canadian, as am I, and we currently reside in Ottawa.

1) I understand I can have my unmarried partner join me in the UK but we don't have much "proof" that we've lived together for 2 years. We have been living together for a little over 2 years and wouldn't be leaving for at least another 6 months (Thanks to the requirements for our dog).

2) Will she be able to work as soon as we arrive? She is currently in a profession dealing with autistic children.

If anyone has been in the same boat I would like to hear your experiences good or bad.

Cheers!

My Canadian bf just went for his biometrics this past Friday. I can't tell you yet if the info we provided was enough. I'll definitely let you know once we get the results.

What I can tell you is the more info you have, the better. Do you have a rental agreement with both your names on it, dating back 2 years? You have to prove the 2 years!

Yes, your girlfriend will be able to work, probably have to get the NIN. The great thing about the Unmarried Partner visa, is that she can work for the full 2 year period.

Hope that helped a little, and Good luck!

I'm reading INF4 and it states that.
Can I join my unmarried or same-sex partner in the UK?
You can apply to join your unmarried or same-sex partner in the UK, as long as:

* they currently live and are settled in the UK, or they are coming to live permanently in the UK, and
* you are aged over 18 and your sponsor is over 18.
----------------------------
Would I be considered "coming to live permanently in the UK" under an ancestry visa?

I'm no expert in this by any means. But if I were in your shoes, I'd focus on the ancestry visa first, then the Unmarried Partner visa

I don't believe your girlfriend will be able to go to the UK with you as an Unmarried Partner until you have a tie to the UK. I had to prove my UK Nationality for my boyfriend to get his.

But as soon as you get your Ancestry Visa, then I would say yes, you moving to UK under the Ancestry Visa would allow you to live in the UK permanently.

Do we have access to any other sites/forums that would provide me with more in depth information as to WHAT supporting documents will be needed and how many to prove 2 years of living together.
All we have to date is my girlfriends Drivers License and having her under my workplaces Health Benefits as Common Law.

These 2 items do prove it but I've read one persons story that they had to provide 20-40 different pieces of documentation.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist!
