Unsure what steps to take - Canada to USA

Hey All,

I am looking to move to Texas from Canada to be with my girlfriend. I have a Masters Degree in Computer Science, and a Bachelors in Computer Science. I am looking to apply for jobs as a software developer.

My question is what are my steps? Do I apply for the job first or do I apply for the visa? It seems that the jobs require me to list my Visa Status but the visa site seems to indicate that I need a company to sponsor me.

Also, with my credentials what visa do I aim for? I see a lot of people discussing a TN visa but I think that is only for specific fields of work, none of which include software development.

Any help would be great.

You will need a job offer before applying for a visa. Some TN professions that you might want to consider are: Computer Systems Analyst and Software Engineer. You also appear to qualify for an H1B visa. Additionally, depending on how serious your relationship is with your girlfriend (If she is a USC) you might want to consider a fiancé visa.
