Update and Moving Preparations

Postby Dante » Thu Oct 25, 2007 6:17 am

Hello everyone,

It's been a while, but then it's been a while since I've received any information. First off, thank you to all who replied to my previous problem. My fiancee visited me here just a couple of weeks ago for Thanksgiving and her birthday. We had a wonderful time, and really it's thanks to the advice I received here.

The latest update. As some (maybe) of you might remember, the last word we had received after the first month, was that a backlog was holding things up for ALL fiance visas, and the wait for the first NoA was increased to three months. After the three months my fiancee once again contacted USCIS and explained the situation, and how we still had not received our notice. The woman at the other end was perplexed. She explained that the first notice is sent out AS SOON as they receive our application. She put in a request to have it sent, assured us we would receive it by November 2, and then did one better than our previous contact. She gave us our case number! So, now we at least have assurances that USCIS received our application (June 12, 2007) and that they're currently "processing" it at the California Service Center.

And now, after that long-winded explanation, onto my most recent question. I've been sorting through my belongings, purging what I can. However, I can see there will still be quite a bit that I wouldn't be able to replace, and so need to take with me. This will work out to more than two suitcases. So, now I ask again for the expert opinions here, this time for advice on the best way to ship my belongings down to Texas. (For various reasons, neither of us can drive these down.)

Thanks again in advance for the help.

Pack 'em up real good and send it by mail or courier. But you can't really do that until you have your visa, just in case customs goes through it, you'll need the customs documents for shipping personal goods, which requires a copy of your visa and I-94 (entry record). Keep it with family or a friend who can send it after you move.
