URGENT TN - orig diplomas but no transcripts

Post Thu Dec 10, 2009 8:11 pm

Hello,

I'm heading to Pearson tomorrow to hopefully apply for TN status, but my future US employers failed to prepare me in time... I didn't know until this afternoon that I might need transcripts in addition to my original diplomas, now it's too late to get them in time. I'm applying under the category Physicist and I will bring original diplomas from my Bachelor's and PhD degrees. Will also have full documentation from a lawyer with job description, plus offer letter.

Is it too risky for me to apply like this or should I go for it?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

I never brought transcripts. You only need transcripts if you have an "unrelated degree" and are trying to point to curriculum as justification for TN.

You are applying for Physicist. If your degree is in Physics, that's it.

You don't need a resume either, btw.

Just cleared immigration with approval for a full 3 years of TN status.

Thanks for the help! You were right, no transcripts necessary (PhD alone with physics clearly indicated on the diploma was sufficient).

Some have reported experiences at the port of entry requiring actual degree awarded, official transcripts, and the whole 9 yards. That does not mean they will make a request for transcripts, it depends on the adjudicator as well. Transcripts would be especially useful when showing a less specialized degree eligibility for immigration status, i.e. a beneficiary with a General BSc. with a specialization in Physics. Your case was a clear-cut one.
