URGENT: TN processing at Pearson, ANYTIME?

Postby The_Knight on Mon Dec 01, 2008 5:31 pm

Hey there, this is pretty urgent as I'm booking my flight tomorrow in advance.

Are there certain hours for processing my TN application at the airport at Pearson? Or is it always before my flight, regardless the time of my flight? (say 5:00am)

I don't want to show up 1:00am, 4 hours before my flight, to find the office closed or anything.

Thanks guys you've always been so helpful.

I think the earliest is 5am or 6am. At one point I called what time they open for TN applications. It normally takes 2~3 hours.

If I were you get a ticket around 4~6pm. Be there like by 10 ~ 11am.
Otherwise you risk missing your flight which I did.

Yes they are slow in process.

I renewed a visa in November, and it took 90 minutes from start to finish. I arrived at the airport at noon. My visa wasn't a TN but an R-1, didn't matter - everyone was there for 90 minutes or so, except the guy removed for swearing at the CBP Officer.

The Toronto PFI opens at 5:00 AM. Some say give yourself 3 or 4 hours to have a safe TN processing experience. I just went through Pearson a month back and it was like a ghost town. Only 3 customs gates open for flights en route to the U.S.

What terminal are you going through? My advice is to fly Air Canada and go through Terminal 1. A few reasons:
1 - I got turned down when I flew through Terminal 2 back in early November. The customs officer did not know what she was doing and referenced a lawyer's site called naftatnlawyer - she wasn't even following her own guidelines!

2. At terminal 1, they are quite familiar with Canadians going through there. I waited nearly an hour and 45 min before anyone saw me, but by the time I got up there, she had already looked at my app and had some very cursory questions. Total time was about 2 hours by the time I paid the fees etc.

The American carriers depart at Terminal 3. Yes, Canadians fly on American carriers too.

If you got a CBP officer quoting naftatnlawyer.com, she might be a bit of a hardliner, :) This seems quite common along the Toronto/Buffalo corridor.
