US citizen, Canadian wife in the US

Post Wed Feb 11, 2009 12:09 am

Hello everyone! Got a question or two for you:

I am a US Citizen currently working in Canada. My fiance is Canadian and we have applied for Permanent Residency here, she is sponsoring me. We are thinking that I should be getting my PR very soon, which is great.

We plan to get married early next year (2010) There is a chance that I could land a SWEET job in the states around that time. We're wondering if you can help us figure out if it will be possible for us to live in Canada together since we'll be married.

We're pretty familiar with the Canadian Immigration process and are wondering how similar/different it is from the US process?

Thanks

If you'll be getting Canadian PR soon, you would be able to petition to sponsor your wife to the US directly at your local consulate. The petition will be processed there, but your wife will have to have her interview at the US consulate in Montreal.

DCF as we commonly call it, usually takes just a few months, rather than over a year if you were to petition at a USCIS office in the US.
