US Citizen Marrying Canadian in Canada having baby in Canada

Post Tue Feb 26, 2008 11:25 pm

I'm a US Citizen born and raised, i met my fiance 3 years ago on a trip to Canada, we have been together since then, back and forth in the states and Canada.
We are both back in Canada and we recently found out i was pregnant when i got to Canada. We want to know the best way it would be for me to get some sort of ability to work in Canada while i am pregnant, have the baby in Canada and be legally married and living in Canada by the time baby comes roughly in October.
He is currently on permanent disability, is native status, and we are unsure how sponsorship would work in our case or if there is another means to the situation.
I currently have no visas and no post secondary degrees.
any advice would be much appreciated.

PS - i would also be bringing a 96 Nissan sentra into Canada and wondered if there is anything special needed to be done aside from Air Care. of course when it gets into Canada i will be signing it into my fiance's name.
at the end of the day, the sun moves to the other side of the planet.

You can get legally married any time you want, just go to city hall and do it.

As for immigration, you can apply from within the country, but I'm not sure how that would work if your fiance is on disability. You may need to consult with someone knowledgable about family based Canadian immigration.

There's a forum for Canadian immigration http://roadtocanada.com/ where you may be able to get some tips about getting married and starting the process.

As for the car, you will need to import it with your personal goods and you may need to have it fitted for metric dash guages and day time running lights. Have a look thru the Canada border services website http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/

For info on importing a car into Canada, have a look at www.riv.ca which has all the regulations on it. You need CBSA forms B4 and B4A also.

As long as your spouse is a Canadian citizen, he can sponsor you for permanent residency, it's fairly straightforward, have a look on the CIC website.
