US Resident - do I need to file T1243 etc?

Post Sat Mar 20, 2010 7:01 pm

In 2008 I severed all ties (apart from non-resident bank account and RRSP) with Canada - I filed my 2008 tax return with the CRA and a 1040NR return with the IRS. This year I'm a full US resident and just filed by 1040 with the IRS. My question is this: Since I disposed of all my Canadian assets in 2008 and had no Canadian income in 2009 do I need to file anything with the CRA? I've read that filing an NR73 is best done as a reaction to a CRA request and filling out the regular CRA forms (but adding T1243 and T1161) just seems redundant given I have no assets.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Did you put a departure date on your 2008 return? That was the whole point of the exercise.

Since you didn;t leave in 2009, you need to fix your 2008 return.
