US Taxes and Canadian Tuition

Post Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:29 pm

I'm a Canuck living and working in the US--and studying at UBC online. I've received my T2202A from UBC, but I need to file my taxes in the US. How do I go about doing this, or does the T2202A not count/matter in the US?

I did a search for this topic, but no one seems to have asked anything similar. I hope someone out there can help.

I'll follow this with you up at forums.serbinski.com, but UBC has to prepare some US docs for you (1098-T rings a bell), which they should be very familiar at doing, since they are a FAFSA approved school.

You not only want to claim the tuition, but you want to claim the varios other credits and deductions available for higher education see IRS pub. 970 . The Cdn forms may or may not cut it.

All you need to do is ask the right person at UBC....
