US visit work/vacation visa?

Post Mon Sep 26, 2011 9:32 am

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and have been reading through a bunch of posts (all very useful) but I have a question. I'm not sure what visa I would need for the following circumstance.

-I'm a Canadian citizen
-I currently freelance for two US companies and get paid by them in US dollars
-I do not currently work for any Canadian employers
-Both contracts are ongoing for at least another year each
-company #1 is in California and I have been working for them for 2 years
-company #2 is in Florida and I have been working for them for 2 months
-I'm an artist working for tv/film projects

I plan on taking a two week business/leisure visit to the US. I would fly to Florida for one week to attend some business meetings and to meet my workmates. Then for the 2nd week I plan on flying to California to meet the other team I work with. The only "business" type activity I will be practicing will be in Florida, California is more of a vacation to see some sights and meet my co-workers.

I've been reading about the b-1 visa for foreign nationals who wish to enter the US for business purposes. For my situation is this appropriate or is there another visa which would suit my situation better?

Also, back in 2009 I applied for a TN visa to work for the California company and was rejected due to lack of work experience. I have a diploma and lacked the three years work experience needed (had just under three). Would this cause any suspicion or problems for a quick two week visit?

If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it, Thanks!
