For the IR-1--check out visajourney.com and look at the CR-1//IR-1 forum! Read the guide at the tp of the page! With an IR-1 visa (married 2 yrs or more) he can work right away! BUT to get this vis it takes 6 months to a yr. One can NOT live in the USA during the process. 1 can usually visit--up to the POE officer! But visit VJ and look in the Canada forum---in the past MTL (where ALL IR-1, CDN interviewee's go) has had a domicile issue!! They have more or less wanted the USA citizen to be back in the USA!! OR extremely strong evidence they are going back!! But check out the Canada forum, not a lot of recent info on that stating if MTL is still being a stickler! But thats only relationship based! Maybe with ur education, 1 can get a work visa.

Paperwork for the IR-1 is easy, its the waiting thats a killer, lol

I have a similar issue as the original poster.

The details: I have a job offer from a company in the US. (As a software consultant, so not a qualified position, I don't believe.) My wife has dual Canadian/US citizenship, although she has never lived in the US. My wife is planning to work in the US, although she does not yet have a job offer. (She may actually be self-employed, rather than working for a company, if that doesn't complicate things further!)

What would be the quickest/easiest way for us to be able to move?
• I'm thinking she can sponsor me, despite not living in the US. As a US citizen, does she need a job offer first?
• Would I be better to approach the company to ask if they'd sponsor me instead? Once I'm there on their sponsorship, would I be able to apply for a permanent status via my wife?
• Is there a smarter way to approach this?

Finally, what's the ballpark timeline? Are we talking weeks, months, or years before I can get down there?

thanks so much for your help.
