USC Dating Canadian -Can I Work In US and Live In Canada

I am a US Citizen dating a Canadian. Due to complicated things I won't get into now, I'm wondering if it is possible for me to work in the US (Detroit area) and live with him in Windsor? Anyone familiar with the tax issues, what immigration paperwork is necessary, etc?

I know people that have done this before - I think basically you just end up paying your US income taxes the same as you would otherwise. You probably still need some kind of residence permit for Canada though.

Have you called the local Canadian consulate? They'd be able to give you all the info.

As far taxes are concerned, Canadians are taxed on residency (183 days or more) whereas US taxes are based on citizenship. So you have continue to file US tax returns

Hi there, I did this. I worked in CT and lived outside Toronto. It depends what your profession is - I had a TN visa which my employer sponsored me for, and I paid income tax in Canada as usual.

You would have to apply to Canadian Immigration for a residency visa of some sort.
