Hi, all. I'm off to see the wonders in Europe in May and I have questions concerning the usage of my Royal Bank and CS-COOP card.

Right now I only have a savings account on the card. Will this be ok, or should I be using a chequing account?

I think I saw it mentioned someplace that ATMs in Europe only work with chequing accounts and not savings. Is this true?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the convinience but it usually costs you less to use a chequing account with an ATM card. Most banks charge you a lot more per transaction to withdraw from a savings account since they are counting on those funds to be available for them to use.

In the Uk and Ireland you will need a debit/credit account to be able to draw funds. I've not come across an ATM that will let you draw funds from a savings account. If your ATM card has a 'Visa' sign on it you'll have no problems.
