So I just found out (thanks to Nailbunny on this board) that I do not require a Visa, yeppie! Now that I'm all sorted out and ready to go, I am in the process of trying to find a way for my boyfriend to move to the UK permantely with me.

We can't go over using the married visa, because of the obvious, we aren't married. We have been living together for over 2 years, and have no problem providing proof for that. We've lived together for 4 years actually, but no proof of that.

Now, we have the option of using the fiance one, which to me isn't an option because you have to get married within 6 months. Although I plan on spending forever with him, throwing a wedding in the mix right now isn't a good plan.

Which leaves me with the 'Unmarried Visa'. this Visa sounds perfect, don't have to get married, don't have to be married, have to prove that we have lived together for more than 2 years. All this is do-able.

Does anyone know if there is a catch i'm missing? Why would anyone go over as the fiance bit, when they don't need the hassle and can go over using the 'unmarried bit'?

Anyone used this Visa to go to the UK? Any problems?

I could be completely wrong, but I think the Unmarried Partner visa is fairly new - I suspect the "married" partner visa could be considered discriminatory against people who are in long-term relationships but don't want to be married.

As for why people would go the fiancee route? Maybe because they don't meet the qualification of having lived together for 2 years? Many people don't! Smile

If you meet the criteria, then the unmarried partner route seems the best one - it allows him to work as well, which is good.
