Utility costs for one person

Post Sat Nov 24, 2007 5:16 pm

Hi. Could anyone give me an idea of how much I would be looking at for the following items please? Say for a 800 sq 1 bedroom apartment for 1 person, in Melbourne.

- Gas, Water, electricity
- Telephone
- Internet (high speed, just for surfing, not heavy usage)

I am trying to work out if my deal is good enough. Many thanks!

Hi, not sure if I am too late with this reply.

But:

The gas bills are sent around every two months. The bills will depend on how much you use gas. It is cheaper to have gas hot water and heating. If so, your bills should be around $70 per two months.

Electricity - is more expensive. If your heating and water is on electricity, then your bills will be around $160 per billing period.

Internet is anywhere from $35- $50 per month.

Hope that's of some help.

I forgot about the phone bill. The costs will vary according to the company that supplies the line, the plan, and of course useage.

Most people in Australia have their home phone lines through Telstra or Optus. You could google both of those and check out their plan prices to see if it corresponds with your bills.

Cheers.

Thanks a lot charliegirl. That's very helpful. The phone charges seem to be very expensive (charging by the minute). Cheers.
