Hi there!
I am a dual Canadian-Australian (holder of both passports, but only visited Perth about 5 times) who is moving to Perth to be with my Australian fiance.
It will be my first time living in Perth or Australia in general, I have family in Busselton & far suburbs but planning to reside in downtown. So, housing is not a problem.
Any info on:
- What to bring?
I have liquidated most of my belongings, except for clothes and shoes.
- How to ship my belongings abroad? Any reco's? Probably six boxes of clothes and shoes. Is it cheapest to go Canada Post 3rd Class Seamail (I've sent large parcels before fairly cheaply this way) or use a moving company? Which one? A freight forwarder?
Any reco's would help...
- Should I open an HSBC account here?
They have an HSBC Bank in Perth, this I have verified. Any others?
- Final taxes? I don't leave till March but will be filing in January to get this out of the way before leaving. I don't want to get doubly taxed for income earned abroad. Once there I shall apply for a TN number..
For those who have settled:
- How has looking for work been?
Here I work for a large national company as a Marketing Manager. I don't have a degree but many ref's and experience. I have done Account Management as well.
- Any specific documents that one should bring? Of course reference letters, birth cert, medical records.. Anything else that one might not think of?
- Any social clubs that you could recommend for new arrivals of Canadian, or American descent?
Thank you very much for any help you can offer!
Cheers!
