Visa applications

Post Mon Oct 27, 2008 4:34 pm

My husband & I are applying for our UK visa late in November (ancestry for me with my husband being attached to mine). Once we apply online, do we then courier the documents to them or take them when we go for our appointment? And how soon after we electronically send in our application will we get our apointment? Does each person have to have the 4300 pounds? And how many months worth of bank statements do they want to see? We are hoping that my husabnd will (once we get the visa) get a transfer with his job.
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Laura,

Check out some of the replies in the Visas and Immigration section- I've had a few posts in there- it just takes too long to type out! My wife and I just did the Ancestry thing (I'm the dependent applicant). All the answers are there.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Hi there -

Thanks for the reply & direction, will take a look directly!
How are you finding Edinburgh? And how did you find the whole getting over there process? How was getting through Immigration etc?
Thanks again!

Aye, it's been good- I've done this once before so I'm used to it but for my wife it's the first time 'round, and she's having a ball (and so is our pup, we brought him too). Immigration was a breeze.

I noticed you're in Ottawa. After you complete your online application, you'll need to make your way to the Worldbridge VAC site; it's on Albert Street (either 304 or 340, can't remember). When you leave there, if you walk over to Laurier Street there's a Purolator and they will do a same day delivery to the Embassy for a whopping $7- just remember, despite already being in Ottawa, you can't drop these off in person (stupid I know). Now, you truly have the option if you want to pay the $15 courier fee to return your stuff- you're already in Ottawa so it might not be a big deal to go back to the VAC to pick it up- we were in North Bay so we really had no choice.

Good luck, and you know where to find me if you have any other questions.
