Visa Appointment (WHM)

Postby jamehmb » Sat Jun 02, 2007 10:05 pm

Hey folks,
I am flying to Scotland to travel and work for a while, and am going to apply for a working holiday maker visa. I fly out on the 22nd of June and plan on going up to Ottawa for an appointment to apply for my visa on the 12th of June. Is anyone aware whether or not my visa application will be processed in time for my departure. Any suggestions or info. would be muchly appreciated,

james

HI There.

I'm doing the exact same thing, applying for a working holidaymaker so i can work in the UK. I am applying online. Why are you going for an appointment in person? What's the difference? I'm just curious to make sure i'm doing everything correctly.

Good luck.

Hey Beth,

I was going to the appointment in person, in the hopes that I will be able to get my visa faster. I fly out in 15 business days and I am under the impression it takes that long to receive your visa if applying online, so I would be cutting it a little close. I'm a huge procrastinator.

Thanks for your input. when are you leaving?

HI James.

I'm planning to leave the beginning of August. How long do you think it will take? If i sent it now, will it be ready for the time i'm leaving? I'm so nervous about this whole process bc it's new to me and it's impossible to get a straight answer from anyone at the High Commission.

Understandable that you are going in person. I get it now! Where in Scotland are you going to be working and travelling?
Take care.

Hey Beth,

The drive to Ottawa worked out perfectly. I filled out the online application the night before :O, and the appointment took 5 minutes. My visa came this past Friday, so I am good to go. My cousin in Montreal took the same route you are, and you are most definitely fine in regards to time. It took his visa about 10 days sending it through snail mail.

I'm going to Edinburgh and working at a restaurant where another one of my cousins works. Can't wait.

Sorry James. It's been awhile and i didn't know you responded again. It finally worked out with my WHM visa so i'm leaving September 15th! IT's very exciting. I'm looking for teaching jobs (mostly supply work ) but i am also thinking of a part time job! (waitressing or something even though i don't have any experience).

Hope all is well with you.
