Visa help for a Respiratory Therapist!!

Post Sun Dec 11, 2011 10:30 pm

Hi,

I am Canadian who got a BSc degree in Respiratory Therapy in the Us in May 2010. I got offered a job by an american hospital in fall of 2010 but I had to deny it because I couldn't get a visa. It was a small hospital and they only gave visas out on a "need" basis. My question is do I have any chance of obtaining an H1B visa by any hospital or clinic in the states? I've heard that Respiratory therapists have a hard time getting a visa because they are usually recognized as associate degree programs however I graduated from a 4-year degree program. Also, I looked into a TN visa but it seems as though the RT profession isn't listed under the qualified professions so it looks as though I wouldn't qualify for that...I would REALLY appreciate some guidance on this topic :) Thanks!

You might qualify for TN under the OT/PT categories.
H1 is closed right now until October 2012, so whether or not you are eligible for H1, and regardelss if the hospital wanted to or could sponsor you, you won;t be working on H1 until next october.

So, plenty of time to figure out if TN will work for you.
