I'm still in the beginning stages of looking at possibly moving to the southern states. There are job opportunities, but I can't seem to find a visa that fits me. I have a college education and I work as a drafter in the geotechnical engineering feild. My problem seems to be I don't have a DEGREE. I just have a diploma. I'd also like to stay for more than a year, I guess depending on if I like it or not. Is there any visa that would let me stay for an extended period of time without having a degree?

Yes you can work as a TN scientific technician. Geological technicians qualify as sci-techs, you don't even need a degree for eligibility.

But linz06 please be aware that the border officer tends to give hard time for those using TN catogory as a Sci. Tech, System Anaylst, and Managment consultant.

After reading numerous post from forums, the officer is stricter on this due to a high abuse rate in these catagory.

I am eligible to join a professional organization to be an Applied Science Technologist, but I've just been putting it off. Do you think it would help me out to join and get some initials after my name? Would I be taken more seriously then? Or would it make a difference?

I think that's a very good idea.
