visa sponsorship

Post Tue Oct 28, 2008 1:54 am

I'm new here. I have a question for anyone willing to help me out. I am a Social Worker by profession in the Philippines but currently living in the United Sates as an illegal. I worked as an Assistant Administrator at a care home facility for 4 years before my employment petition was denied. I would like to try my luck in Canada. How do I go about it? WHere do I look for employers willing to sponsor me? I have a BS degree in Social Work. Thank you!

You might qualify as a skilled worker without needing sponsorship, take the test on the CIC website and see if you qualify: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/ ... ly-who.asp

Applications though are taking about 2 years at present, there are employment agencies in Canada that can assist you with finding a job and help with the work permit process. Bear in mind though that it is illegal for them to charge you a fee for the immigration paperwork, although many try to. If you get a work permit I'd say you would find it relatively straightforward to get permanent residency, as you have some experience already and a degree.

There are a heck of a lot of Filipinos in Calgary, that much I know for sure.
Steve.
