Visiting the states

Post Tue Dec 08, 2009 4:15 pm

Okay well im leaving to visit a friend/family in the states on the 20th and im going by train i was wondering if there is anything i should know

Also am i able to bring tylenol 3's or other medication that's prescribed by my doctor across,

And last time i went across (in august) They hassled me about not having a job and whatnot, i was wondering if that would restrict my entry this time at all

If you have return passage you should be fine.

if you've been grilled once, you'll be grilled again. There's not much you can do about that I'm afraid.

If you have a prescription from your doctor, then the Tylenol is fine.

There is definitively an element of inconsistency involved when crossing depending on the inspector. I went through Buffalo back in 2008 and they did check to see if I actually had a return ticket. But I will bet now one could probably cruise through Buffalo now no problems.

I was hassled twice coming back through Pearson from Indiana so you are not alone with your experience. Some of the older posts on here seem to suggest your trip via train will be a good experience.

Have a passport and return ticket just in case.

Being grilled once does not guarantee repeated grilling. What does ensure repeated problems is an actual denial of entry or worse.

if his/her situation is still the same, ie: without job or ties to Canada, expect to be grilled again. They really don't have any problem holding up an entire trainload of people to detain just one. And they don't care if you miss your connection either.

Oh, definitely. If you want to alienate a bunch of strangers, just take a train or bus across the border, with an 'unusual' immigration situation -- like US fiance, new TN, no home...

The "back room" at the POE will feel like a more inviting place than the passenger car you crawl back to an hour later -- if you get there.
