Visitors to UK - Applying for Settlement after 6 month stay?

Post Fri Jul 29, 2011 5:45 am

Hi all. I am a British citizen living in Canada with my family. I have been offered a job in the UK, but am finding it difficult to meet all the requirements for my family to get a settlement visa. For example, I don't have suitable housing in the UK yet as I am still in Canada, etc.

I am wondering about bringing my family to the UK as visitors for 6 months and then they go back to Canada to apply for Settlement Visas after. Would this be a problem? I am wondering this because then I could obtain rental housing, establish myself, bank account, etc., etc. Does anyone have advice for me? Also, as Canadians visiting the UK, would they have any problems coming over for 6 months with no visas? They all have Canadian passports. Many thanks for your help.

You have to convince Immigration Officers that your family members are real visitors and they will go back to Canada after their 6 months stay. It can be useful amongst other pieces of evidence, to purchase return filght tickets for all of them and bring the tickets with you in your cabin luggage so you can show them at the border.

Thanks for the advice. We would still own a home in Canada and have relatives living there, so there is still strong ties to Canada. I thought it was a good idea so I/we can establish ourselves first - i.e. prove that I have the income, bank account, housing, etc.
