Volunteer Background Check

Post Tue Oct 18, 2011 10:33 am

Hi there!

I did a search but didn't find anything that seemed to be the same so I thought I should ask!

I am a Canadian student on the 1-94 to go to graduate school in Colorado. I am with UC Denver and am looking to work in a juvenile youth facility to do creative writing classes. So since this is essentially a prison, I need to do a background check and a urine test and blah blah blah. What I want to know is: how do they do a background check on a Canadian? Can they? Do I need to get it back in Canada? (I am already in Colorado). I really want to volunteer and have tried talk to the program organizer, the facility, my professor, and done google searches all to no avail. I am sure someone will *eventually* get back to me but I am wondering if anyone else has had similar experience. Not only do I desperately want to help these kids, but also my thesis is shot to hell if I don't get in there! Yeesh.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well, THEY need to do the background check, not you. So, submit to whatever tests they want. If they aren't satisfied, they will let you know what is missing.
I worked here to work in a nuke plant, and NRC had no trouble figuring out who I was.
