Waiting for unmarried partner visa

Post Tue Jan 27, 2009 4:38 pm

Hello, I have been reading this forum and decided to join. Maybe someone will help ease the stress. I have applied for my British Visa and done the legwork and my info arrived in Ottawa Dec. 15, 08. I still have not heard anything..no calls, no emails nothing! My british boyfriend went back to live and get situated for my arrival, he left Jan 14th. I dont see many comments on here for the unmarried partner. I am more than 1/2 way through my 50 working days...but my letter said it could be done in 2 weeks possibly. Now I am getting worried that I have not heard anything..getting desperate to get to England. Is there any chance that maybe mine is held up until he proves he can take care of me? Because I cannot work for 6 months once I arrive. We are both legally seperated and i have filed for divorce but not done yet and he has filed soon as he got to England. I need to know so I can get our house in canada sold etc...lots to do and I cant do anything until i get my approval...anyone have any insight or been in this situation??

Hello,

I would not worry to much about the processing time , it could be that is it more busy at this time of the year and that your application is a little bit more complex than the norm (because you are not divorced).

They changed your visa to unmarried partners because to apply for a fiancee visa you have to be already divorced. With a fiancee visa you have to get married within 6 months (once you receive your visa) , I don't know how long it take to get divorced but it mean that you could possible still not be divorce by the time that you need to get married again.

With an unmarried partner visa you can work as soon as you get you visa and move to the UK. The 6 months wait is only for the fiancee visa ,in which time they need to get married and apply for a spouse visa.

Did you provide all the documents required?
- evidence of a two-year relationship linking you to the same address?

Your boyfriend is your sponsor and needs to show that he can support you financially and can provide a suitable accommodation..did you provide this? (savings, jobs, flat/house renting or living with family/friends??)

Hi,
Yes we provided mortgage papers, bills with both our names on it. The British Embassy in Toronto where I applied said that we had enough. Hopefully, which I dont forsee a problem both our divorces should be through within 6 months so I should have at least a couple months leeway between divorce/marriage. We also supplied an address for him in which he would be living etc.. Well I hope you are right and they are busy..thankyou..I feel a little better now! This waiting is killing me! lol
Cheers!

Well the embassy just called me today. They are looking for a few documents to support that we cohabitated for 2 years, proof of my boyfriends employment in england and proof of his rented accomodations. They also need a notorized copy of his british passport or birth certificate (which we had on us the day we applied and they didnt want it!) Just wanted to post this so if anyone else needs advice they know what they need. My email from them also said it could take up to 50 working days again.... I hope not! Anyway since my application has been there since Dec 15/08 and had no contact until today i was worried that they forgot about me!!! LOL Hopefully this gets resolved quickly...waiting too long already!

cheers!
