Here's an article on the situation:
http://ess-worldwide.net.au/blog/?p=190Other sites I've found say it ranges from 12 to 24 months. But I think that range is actually wider, from maybe a few months to years (as in, it's been 2 years and still waiting, so no idea how long)
Basically, it completely depends on what the skills are that you're bringing with you. If immigration
Australia deems you to be of high value, your processing time could be relatively short. If not, you could be sitting in a pile for years. The points test tells you very little. That is only the MINIMUM requirement to be able to immigrate.
An employer sponsor can really speed up the process, and I highly recommend doing everything possible to try to find one. You could get a job in Canada with an international company with offices in Australia, and apply for every transfer that comes up?
Attitudes towards immigration have turned drastically negative in Australia in recent years. I expect the wait times to get longer, and the numbers allowed in to get smaller.
Good luck!
