Waiting times for Skilled Migration Visa

Post Tue Mar 01, 2011 12:16 pm

Hi
My husband and myself want to immigrat to Australia. We will qualify for the 120 points that are required.
My questions does anyone know how long the waiting times are for the visa? We are also PR in Canada and when we applied then there were statistics given by the Immigration Canada. Does anyone know about those stats from Immigration Australia? I can't find them anywhere.
Thanks

Here's an article on the situation:

Other sites I've found say it ranges from 12 to 24 months. But I think that range is actually wider, from maybe a few months to years (as in, it's been 2 years and still waiting, so no idea how long)

Basically, it completely depends on what the skills are that you're bringing with you. If immigration Australia deems you to be of high value, your processing time could be relatively short. If not, you could be sitting in a pile for years. The points test tells you very little. That is only the MINIMUM requirement to be able to immigrate.

An employer sponsor can really speed up the process, and I highly recommend doing everything possible to try to find one. You could get a job in Canada with an international company with offices in Australia, and apply for every transfer that comes up?

Attitudes towards immigration have turned drastically negative in Australia in recent years. I expect the wait times to get longer, and the numbers allowed in to get smaller.

Good luck!
