want to find job in New Jersey/ have a teaching degree

Postby drumbeat7 » Thu Jul 31, 2008 7:55 am

Can anyone give me a tip on how I can get a job/visa in New Jersey as my girlfriend has moved there from Canada. she is on a T1 or NAFTA visa but they will not give that for teachers and I know (think I know) that I need a H1-B (think I spelled that right?.) visa.\

I have been looking into it, but realize I need a job offer still. I am looking at trying to find a good website to find a job. I have tried with VIF but actually worked with them before and had some issues with them which I guess they may have marked me on since I do not get any interest from them.
I have PE/ Biology teaching specialties and really liked the younger ages.

Anyone work in New Jersey and can tip me on a good area? My girlfriend is in Freehold (Central New Jersey) but is also looking at another job after arriving and getting licensed as a Physical therapist there.
thanks for any advice.

H-1B is pretty tricky to get because of the DOL certification, compared to a TN-1 (plus there is a quota, but academic institutions are normally exempt). I was watching something on NBC news about a junior high school in New Jersey laying people off because of the decline in property tax revenues there.

But yes it is possible, but I think private schools are the most likely bet.

Just wondering if you've found a way to teach in NJ. My story is actually very similar to yours. I taught in the US with VIF except I had a wonderful placement so I was very lucky. I want to get back down to teach but can't for the life of me find a way. Have you had any luck?
